President William Ruto Extends Invite British Monarch as Kenya Prepares to Celebrate 60 Years of Independence

    The British High Commissioner to Kenya, H.E. Neil Wigan, and Dr. A. Korir Singoei, Principal Secretary of the State Department for Foreign Affairs, spoke at a joint press conference on His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s State Visit to Kenya, which will take place from October 31 to November 3, 2023.

    As Kenya gets ready to commemorate 60 years of independence, H.E. President William Ruto has extended an invitation for the visit. The purpose of the visit is to reaffirm the cordial ties and solid, growing partnership between the two nations.

    Their Majesties will meet President Ruto and the First Lady, other Kenyan government officials, UN staff, CEOs, religious leaders, young people, and potential future leaders.

    They will also attend a celebration honouring the late Professor Wangari Maathai, the Nobel Prize winner, and her life and work.

    Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne in Kenya in February 1952, making this His Majesty’s first visit to a Commonwealth nation as King.

    The King and Queen will tour important landmarks and renowned locations in the counties of Nairobi and Mombasa as well as the surrounding regions.

    Their Majesties’ programme will highlight the ways Kenya and the UK are cooperating to advance sustainable development, increase regional stability and security, combat climate change, and promote youth employment and opportunity.

    The King and Queen’s programme will highlight the strong ties between the British and Kenyan populations in fields including the inventive arts, technology, business, and education.
