Prime CS Mudavadi Lauds Police Mission in Haiti But Calls for More Boots

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi highlighted the notable strides made by the Kenyan police mission, consisting of 410 dedicated officers, within its first 100 days.

Working alongside the Haiti National Police (HNP), the Kenyan contingent has significantly improved public safety in critical areas of Port-au-Prince, including the international airport, national hospital, and main seaport.

Since its deployment, the mission has been pivotal in conducting joint patrols in key locations, including downtown Port-au-Prince, to ensure the protection of civilians amid ongoing instability.

Mudavadi reported a 40% reduction in crime rates in areas where Kenyan officers are active, showcasing the tangible impact of their operations.

The mission’s efforts have also led to the clearance of over 30 roadblocks, facilitating unhindered movement for humanitarian aid to communities in desperate need.

Although the results have been promising, Mudavadi noted a pressing challenge: with only 410 officers on the ground out of an anticipated 2,500 needed for full deployment, the mission’s potential is limited.

He urged the United Nations Security Council to consider extending the mission for an additional year to allow for the vital increase in personnel required for sustained security efforts.

Additionally, Mudavadi called for innovative solutions to secure necessary resources to continue and expand the mission’s operations.

“This is indeed a ‘Mission Possible,’”
