Police in Kirinyaga County are investigating an incident where inmates transferred to Mwea GK Prison in Kirinyaga County from Kamiti Maximum Prison set a prison dormitory on fire.
The incident happened at about 12 yesterday.
Firefighters from Kirinyaga County Government could not enter the prison gate because the gate was small hence enabling the fire to spread further.
58 prisoners from Kamiti Maximum Prison were brought to Mwea GK Prison after a previous protest.
Some of the inmates had refused to come out of the vehicles ferrying them in a show of protest against the transfer. No injury was reported in the incident.
