Marco Verratti, an Italy international, has earned a one-match Ligue 1 ban – with another suspended – for insulting the referee following a Paris Saint-Germain defeat.Â
Following the final whistle of last month’s loss to Nantes, the midfielder complained on Canal+ that the “referees are s***ting on us.”
Verratti, joined by a PSG agent, paid a visit to the club’s offices today to explain his side of the story and submit his case.
The decision was a one-match penalty, with another one-match ban being a suspended punishment that will be activated if he insults the referees again.
It means he’ll miss this weekend’s game against Girondins de Bordeaux.
There had been concerns that the Italian could face a four-match ban in Ligue 1, especially given his poor disciplinary record in general.
Verratti has received 115 yellow cards and five red cards in 368 competitive appearances for Paris Saint-Germain.
All five of them were for double reservations.
