The government has raised the fees for some of its services, including passport, ID, work permit, birth and death certificate applications, through the State Department of Immigration and Citizen Services.
Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Prof. Kithure Kindiki said in a special gazette notice dated November 7, 2023 that the charge for the regular 34-page passport application has increased to Ksh.7,500, up from the existing Ksh.4,500.
A 50-page ordinary passport will now cost applicants Ksh.9,500, up from Ksh.6,000, while a 66-page ordinary passport will cost applicants Ksh.12,500, up from Ksh.5,000.
The cost of a 50-page diplomatic passport has increased to Ksh.15,000 from Ksh.7,500, while the cost of a 32-page service passport has remained constant at Ksh.3,000.
Restoring a missing passport will cost Ksh.20,000, up from Ksh.10,000, while restoring a valid mutilated passport will cost Ksh.20,000, up from Ksh.10,000.
Notably, Kenyans will no longer have to pay Ksh.3,000 for a temporary passport; instead, this service will be supplied for free. An express passport, on the other hand, will set you back Ksh.30,000.
Temporary permits, identification certificates, and emergency travel documents will continue to cost Ksh.300, Ksh.3,000, and USD 20 (about Ksh.3031 at the current currency rate). Furthermore, refugee travel documents will be free of charge.
First-time ID applicants will have to pay Ksh.1,000 to obtain the documents that were previously free. The cost of replacing missing IDs will be Ksh.1,000, a tenfold increase from the current Ksh.100.
Identification reports are now Ksh.1,000, up from Ksh.300, and civil servant cards are now Ksh.1,000, up from Ksh.100. Civil servants will now be required to pay Ksh.1,000 for their staff badges, an increase from Ksh.350 previously.
Work Permit Investors (Class G) have also seen their fees rise to Ksh.250,000 from Ksh.100,000. Investors in Work Permits (Class D) will now be charged Ksh.500,000 instead of Ksh.200,000.
The fees for express work permits, special pass processing, dependent pass processing, and student internship processing have increased to USD 10,000, USD 200, USD 200, and USD 100, respectively. Previously, all services were provided for free.
Work visa processing fees have been tripled to Ksh.30,000, while internship pass issuing prices have been quadrupled to Ksh.20,000, up from Ksh.5,000 previously. The charge for issuing dependent passes will remain at Ksh.0.
expenses for dependent passes for Kenyan spouses will be Ksh.30,000, while reprocessing expenses for denied permits would be Ksh.20,000.
Work permit validation will cost USD 100. According to Kindiki, canceling work permits and confirming residency documents will each cost Ksh.50,000.
