The Pwani University administration led by its Vice Chancellor professor Mohamed Rajab have finally made an official statement over the Kayole Naivasha Bus tragedy that saw over 15 people including students dead.
The Administration said, so far the University has established that a total of 11 members from the facility have so far dies during the accident among them 8 students and 3 university staff.
Speaking during a county security delegation meeting led by Kilifi county deputy governor Flora Chibule, Kilifi deputy county commissioner Geoffrey Tanui, County officials and the clergy, Professor Rajab said the accident was such an unfortunate incident and had greatly affected the entire University and Kilifi atlarge.
Together with his Pwani University deputy vice chancellor professor James Kahindi, they said that 8 students are recuperating in the ICU at Kenyatt a National hospital ,21 are in an area under close monitoring at Naivasha sub county hospital,and 2 in Nakuru hospital.
74 students who were in the other bus were ferried to Egerton University and they are currently undergoing counseling ,said Profeesar Kahindi.
”We are organizing to transfer those with minor injuries to Kilifi referral hospital via the SGR on sunday”.he said.
The students were on their way to Eldoret to participate in the kenya universities sports association national sports games when the accident occured.According to the university deputy vice chancellor James Kahindi two buses left the school for the games.
Kilifi deputy county commissioner Mr Geoffry Tanui said the police had kept order and the institution is safe despite yesterday’s rampage by the students.
Kenya Redcross and the clergy have set up a trauma center at the school to council students.Kilifi county deputy governor Flora Chibule has condoled with the family of the bereaved and promised to stand with the institution.
On Thursday the county dispatched a team to Naivasha.The team is led by the Governors director of the delivery unit Mr.Fikirini Jacobs who is also a former student leader at the Pwani University.
