President Ruto To Attend Queen Elizabeth’s Funeral

The President will first travel to the United Kingdom, where he will attend Queen Elizabeth II's state funeral on Monday, September 19.

President William Ruto is scheduled to leave the country today, September 18, for an official visit to the United Kingdom and the United States of America, just one week after being sworn in as President.

The President will first travel to the United Kingdom, where he will attend Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral on Monday, September 19.

King Charles III is expected to host the Head of State for a dinner upon his arrival in the United Kingdom. He will be one of 500 foreign dignitaries attending the State Funeral.

Kenya is one of 36 Commonwealth countries for which Queen Elizabeth II served as a symbolic figurehead. The Queen, who ruled for 70 years, has strong ties to Kenya.

After the funeral, the President will travel to the United States of America to attend the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

The UNGA meeting will be the first to be held in person since the Covid-19 pandemic, which discouraged physical interactions. The UNGA meetings in 2020 and 2021 were held virtually.

President Ruto is also scheduled to meet with President Biden and officials from the American Chamber of Commerce.
