Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition now wants Rigathi Gachagua, the presidential running mate of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), to be disqualified from the 2022 presidential race.
Raila Odinga, the head of Azimio, said that after the High Court ruled that Mr Gachagua could not explain the source of his Sh200 million, he should be disqualified from the race, with only a week until the August 9 elections.
Speaking at the Huruma grounds in Eldoret, Kenya Kwanza Presidential candidate William Ruto’s home turf, the former Prime Minister, who is making his fifth bid for the country’s top seat, said they are competing with a team that is known for corruption and should not be trusted with the country’s leadership.
“Already Ruto’s running mate was charged with funds he had stolen. Sh200 million in his account. He has been convicted, therefore, he should be disqualified. Ruto should disqualify his running mate,” said Mr Odinga.
Raila also warned DP William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza brigade that a political tsunami would sweep them on August 9.
He added that Kenya is now ripe for a revolution that would transform the country’s economy towards prosperity.
“I said long ago that there was a tsunami coming but they said I was lying. It’s now just a few days left,” said Raila.
He stated that residents of the region must be prepared to vote for whoever they want without fear of intimidation or threats.
Raila led residents in taking a public pledge to vote for him and remain in the region, just as Kenyans in other parts of the country have done.
He stated that the Azimio administration would care for all Kenyans regardless of where they lived.
Raila claimed that corruption was undermining Kenya’s growth and, as a result, causing Kenyans to suffer from poverty.
“We must put up industries to create jobs for our youth and also improve our agriculture,” Raila said.
Karua accused DP Ruto of lying about his and his family’s lives being in danger, despite the fact that he was protected by more than 250 security officers.
“He is still an employee of the government as DP with full protection”, Karua said.
