Raila Distances From UhuRuto Impeachment Saga

Days after his handshake partner President Uhuru Kenyatta alleged his deputy planned to push him out of the office and steal power through the back door, ODM leader Raila Odinga now maintains he is unaware of any impeachment claims or attempts.

Raila claimed he had nothing to say about the subject because he was fully ignorant until a meeting with the Universities Academic Staff Union on Tuesday.

President Uhuru Kenyatta spoke out for the first time on Saturday about an alleged plot by his deputy, William Ruto, to destabilize him through impeachment and sabotage.

Kenyatta told Gkùyù elders who paid him a visit at State House in Nairobi that Ruto had an insatiable desire for power and was eager to stir opposition.

Kenyatta explained the Handshake to the elders, saying he went out to his arch-rival turned ally to help stabilize the government and slow down what he called Ruto’s broad scheme to damage his administration and gain control through the backdoor.

Meanwhile, DP Ruto chastised President Uhuru Kenyatta for using the State House to sow seeds of dissension and division among Kenyans.

After being stung by President Kenyatta’s accusations that he was conspiring to depose him, DP Ruto told him to be the unifying factor instead of engaging in propaganda.
