Azimio leader Raila Odinga now says IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati is a ballot thief and must face trial.
Raila, in a hard hitting statement said the IEBC chair wanted to torch the country through his ‘partisan’ declaration of DP William Ruto as the President elect.
“There is neither a legally and validly declared winner nor a president elect. Mr. Chebukati’s announcement purporting to announce a winner is a nullity. He acted with gross impunity and in total disregard of the law.”
He said Azimio will not accept DP Ruto win ‘until the courts interogate the outcome’.
He said Azimio will petition the Supreme Court before it’s Tuesday deadline 22 August deadline.
Raila accused Chebukati of intimidation, theft, connivance and fraud in the handling of the Presidential ballot tally.
He added that Chebukati had prepared two sets of results which he refused to chair with other IEBC commisioners as dictated by the law.
“The law is clear on the role of the chairperson of the IEBC. the law does not vest in the chairperson the powers of a dictator to rule the IEBC unilaterally. The chairperson and a tiny minority of the commissioners have no legal authority to take weighty decisions and proclaim them as a ruling of the iebc.”
The Azimio leader however called for calm as he takes on Chebukati through the legal system.
“The courts will vindicate us, justice is our shield and defender” Raila said to the applause of his supporters
