Raila, Ruto In Twitter Spat Over Cherera

President William Ruto and Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga have gone to social media to express their displeasure with the expulsion of four Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission commissioners.

Ruto repeated his intention to suspend the “Cherera Four” and appoint a tribunal to investigate their conduct during the August 2022 election in a tweet on Sunday.

He also chastised Raila for organizing public protests against the suspensions of IEBC commissioners Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyang’aya, Irene Masit, and Francis Wanderi.

“Even with the system/deep state, you lost the election. Stop deluding yourself & lying. the coup to overturn the people’s will using rogue commissioners, you are now threatening us with maandamano about, failed. Their guilt or innocence will be determined by the tribunal. Rule of law it is,” Ruto told Raila in a tweet.

Raila responded with a video showing Ruto criticizing the results of the 2007 General Election, in which former President Mwai Kibaki was pronounced the winner.

““Usijifanye leo hii kwamba umesahau (do not pretend today that you have forgotten) when the shoe was firmly on the other foot. Let me just leave this here,” Raila wrote in a tweet.”

Supporters from the two divides then clawed at each other over the tweets with some calling on Raila Odinga to retire, as the Azimio leader vowed to show up for ‘maandamano’.
