Raila Odinga, the leader of the opposition, has announced that there will be more protests across the country, with a large demonstration planned for Monday.
Raila stated after anti-government protests on Thursday that the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition would continue to press the Kenya Kwanza administration to address the country’s high cost of living.
He also demanded that the servers of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission be opened in order to investigate last year’s presidential election.
As Kenyans, we have the right to demand a forensic audit of the server to resolve this matter once and for all. Our quest won’t stop and we’ll hold the mother of all demonstrations next Monday, regardless of what our detractors say. We won’t give up,” tweeted Raila shortly after the press briefing.
The protests have seen significant numbers of people taking to the streets across the country, demanding change.
Raila has called Monday’s demonstration the “mother of all demonstrations,” and warned that it will go ahead “irrespective of what our detractors say or think.”
He insisted that despite the police crackdown on the demonstrations, the opposition will not stop pushing for change.
“We are very reasonable people, and we believe that we have got very valid reasons on why we need to have a conversation, but in the absence of preparedness of the other side to cooperate, these demonstrations are going to continue,” Raila said.
