Rastafarian lawyer enters race for Nairobi governor

Mathenge Mukundi a Rastafarian by faith, has expressed his desire  to fill in the governor position which is being held by the speaker of Nairobi county Benson Mutura. – By Stephanie Mwangi.

The 24 year-old lawyer said he is running as an independent candidate in the February 14th by-elections.

When asked about his decision to run for governor, Mathenge said he wants to represent the majority youth in Nairobi who were left out in the decision making process.

Recently when Uhuru was launching the Kenya ni mimi initiative he urged young people to try and take part in Kenya’s politics and development. He also promises to reduce the hefty licensing fees for small business if he gets elected.

“I consulted with my colleagues before making this decision and I am convinced a have a fair chance of becoming the next governor of Nairobi.

I also intend to serve the people of Nairobi diligently and they will never lack basic things like water, electricity and medical services because of the negligence from our country. Mathenge was known to the public when he photos of him went online of him being admitted to the bar.

He explained his decision to wear the turban instead of the barrister wig trended on Social media is his desire to remain true and loyal to the Rastafarian creed.

He has also started his own law firm shortly after he graduated with a degree of law at Kenyatta University.
