‘Respect Foreign Diplomats’, Wetangula Urges Kenyans

Moses Wetangula, the National Assembly Speaker, has called upon Kenyans to exhibit respect towards foreign diplomats in the country, emphasising its role in strengthening international ties.

Speaking during a funds drive event in Webuye West constituency, Wetang’ula highlighted the significance of diplomatic courtesy in promoting Kenya’s growth and stability.

Wetangula’s statements followed a recent incident where Raila Odinga, leader of Azimio la Umoja, criticised the US Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, for her comments on Kenya’s 2022 General Election.

Whitman had commended Kenya’s peaceful and credible elections, prompting Raila to threaten her recall if she did not “shut up.”

“Kenya is not a colony of the US. Keep your mouth shut, otherwise, we shall go for a recall. She should leave Kenyans alone,” said Raila after giving a keynote address at the ongoing Devolution Conference in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

Wetangula stressed the valuable role diplomats play in international collaboration that benefits Kenya.

“Kenya should not allow politicians to employ regressive politics and drive away potential investors, we must all strive to embrace progressive discourse that enhances the country’s global standing,” said Wetangula.

He cautioned against using inflammatory language that might deter potential investors and tarnish the nation’s reputation.

“As Kenyans, we must speak and handle our issues amicably,” Wetangula asserted, emphasising the value of peaceful dialogue in achieving national goals.

Wetangula underscored the importance of constructive communication in addressing domestic issues and urged Kenyans to handle matters amicably.

As Kenya strives for global recognition, fostering respectful dialogue and embracing peaceful solutions are essential components of achieving national goals.
