Revealed: Kalonzo Submitted His Bid Long Before Azimio Fall Out

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka officially declared himself a presidential candidate on the first day of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition’s running mate interviews, according to Nation.

Musyoka stood before the panel interviewing contenders to deputize Raila Odinga the next day.

Wiper’s name was submitted in response to an instruction from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to amend nomination lists in order to meet the two-thirds gender norm.

The party’s National Elections Board head Agatha Solitei signed the letter delivering the list of Wiper aspirants dated May 9.

The IEBC received the name of Mr Musyoka’s running mate, Narok senate candidate Andrew Sunkuli, on Monday.

While the name was accepted, other underlying problems, such as Mr Musyoka’s eligibility despite Wiper’s coalition arrangement with Azimio, will be addressed during the clearance stage, according to an IEBC source.

“Nothing other than mischief will stop this ticket from being cleared to go all the way to the ballot. As a party we are sufficiently prepared to win the August 9, 2022 presidential election,” the Kitui senator said.

Meanwhile the party has prepared an exit strategy from Azimio, that will threaten to destroy Raila Odinga’s party.

If his move is actualized, OKA will be ejected from the Azimio La Umoja party.
