UDA presidential running mate Rigathi Gachagua has been greatly condemned by Milimani Anti-corruption court for his loose utterances in one of his political rallies.

The court ruled that it has come to its notice that Hon Gachagua has been claiming that he has no case to answer after he was charged with theft amounting to Sh 7.3billion from the County Government of Nyeri.

The presiding Magistrate Hon. Victor Wakumile directed Gachagua through his lawyer to approach the court and acquit himself if at all he is innocent and the court file is a clean sheet as he (Gachagua) claims.

The magistrate further directed Hon Gachagua not to hesitate to assume the Magistrate’s seat in the Anti-corruption court and set himself free from the charges.

“Tell your client to take my seat and acquit himself from the case. What is currently circulating in Social media has come to my notice ” said the magistrate.

The case was coming up for a mention to confirm hearing dates. However, Hon. Gachagua did not appear in court. His advocate told the court that the accused is bereaved and as a result, he could not make it to court.

“The first accused person is not in court today. He has lost a brother and the brother is being buried today. I have a copy of the burial permit in court today.” Submitted his lawyer.

The Investigation officer confirmed to the court that the prosecution has a total of 44 witnesses in the case.

Case has been slated for hearing from September 5, 2022 at Milimani Anti-corruption court.
