The increasing number of positive Covid-19 pandemic cases and deaths in Kilifi County has now alarmed leaders who are worried by the recent trend.
The leaders, shocked by the recent surge in covid patients now wants residents to observe the Ministry of health guidelines.
Devolution CAS Gideon Mung’aro and Kilifi deputy governor Gideon Saburi said the situation in the county is not pleasing and people must be cautious to prevent the spread of the disease.
By last Friday, Kilifi county was leading nationwide with 222 positive cases of the pandemic while in the month of June, Malindi alone recorded 39 deaths related to the pandemic.
Speaking during burial ceremony for two children of Rev Tom Dawa of the Anglican church at Thalathamel area in Malindi Mr Mung’aro said his hometown Gede in Kilifi north constituency was also losing people with their deaths connected to covid-19 pandemic.
The CAS, currently mourning the death of his uncle Ex. Chief inspector Japhet Mung’aro and two neighbours said although his uncle never succumbed to the pandemic, the cases were high.
“We led the whole country with 224 cases I don’t want to be proud of it but the area is leading with Covid-19 pandemic cases right now is our home Gede,” he said.
He said there are other cases of MCAs from Kilifi who were transferred to Mombasa for further medication which clearly shows that there is need to tighten the rope more.
“Let’s be cautious because Covid-19 is still here with us and its dangerous those who have heard about the vaccines in Kilifi should make sure they are vaccinated so as to reduce the spread,” he said.
Mr Mung’aro said people should not be careless because they still need 0one another in this world despite the pandemic being dangerous.
On his part the Deputy governor said people should understand that Covid-19 pandemic is real and should not mislead people that there is no coronavirus.
“Right now, the Covid-19 pandemic is at its worst stage, and it’s the worst anybody contacting the virus now causes panic because it takes a very short time to end a life,” he said.
Speaking separately at Soul Harvest Ministries Church in Malindi he urged residents to observe the Ministry of health protocols by enduring they wash hands with soap, use sanitizers, and keep social distance adding that anyone who feels sick to rush to hospital for medication.
For now, Saburi said he has become a crusader of the pandemic and is in the frontline to urge people to ensure they prevent the spread of the virus.
