A section of youth allied to the Handshake clashed with those allied to Deputy President William Ruto in Kisii town, ahead of his visit.

According to reports, the protesters, who were bodaboda operators scheduled to meet the deputy president, blamed local leadership of leaving them out during the DP’s visit preparations and using their plight to enrich themselves.

Police officers were engaged in running battles, and putting out bonfires that had been lit by the disagreeing groups.

The Deputy President was to meet with some Gusii leaders, Boda Boda operators, and market vendors in Kisii town today, to discuss matters to do with their livelihoods.

The incident comes hardly a day after residents, women groups, and politicians protested alleged insults hurled at the President Uhuru Kenyatta by politicians allied to the deputy.

Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno was arrested and charged over hate speech remarks.
