As the rains continue, the number of people affected by floods in the Nyando plains grows by the day.
The number of people affected as of now is estimated at 4500.
Speaking at Ombaka in Nyando act doing an assessment on the flood situation, acting Kisumu county commissioner Hussein Alanson has said more families have been affected and the number is expected to rise.
He has appealed to those who are living around River Nyando to move to higher grounds and the evacuation centre set at Ombaka.
Alanson at the same time, has appealed to both governments for food and non-food items to families affected.
“We have sent an appeal for emergency support of either food or non-food to both national and county government assistance as from tomorrow”, he said.
He has talked of plans by the county government of Kisumu to start repairing the dykes that have been washed away.
