Road to the Peak: Kenya records highest single-day cases of COVID-19

coronavirus update july

Kenya has on Wednesday recorded its highest number of COVID-19 cases. 307 people have tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours – By Gerald Gekara.

Health CAS Dr Rashid Aman while giving his daily briefing, pegged the rising number cases to laxity by the political class, as well as citizens who are flouting containment measures.

“I appeal to all Kenyans to take personal responsibility. We as a Gov’t have done all we can to contain the spread not to overwhelm our health system. Huge numbers can only be altered if we maintain rules and regulations laid down” said CAS Aman.

The recent spike now raises the total number of cases to 6,673.

The Ministry of Health has said that if its projection is anything to go by, the country could be facing its peak between July and August this year.

55 patients have been declared Covid-19 negative, further raising Kenya’s recoveries to 2,089. However, one more patient succumbed to the virus, raising Kenya’s total fatalities to 149.

In the recently announced results, the ministry confirmed 600 patients have been prescribed for home based care. No patient has since died from the recently launched programme.

So far, 186 health workers have tested positive for the coronavirus. 102 of them are females, while 84 were male. The latest instance of health workers getting infected was recorded in Shalom Hospital, Machakos County.

Health DG. Dr. Patrick Amoth who confirmed the statistics, applauded his ministry for taking care of health workers, being that none of the patients have died from the pandemic.
