Police teargass Roadside traders at Kiambu Road

Roadside traders located along the Nairobi-Kiambu Road have been dispersed by police officers after a series of warnings by the state – By Gerald Gekara.

According to the officers who decended on the traders next to Windsor Roundabout, the traders have been warned against encroaching a section of the busy road to display their merchandise.

The Nairobi County officers who accompanied the police alleged that the roadside market was unauthorized, with no waste management plan in place, no licensing mechanism and urged the sellers to secure stalls at public markets.

On their side, the traders have been lamenting the effects of Coronavirus left them with no other choice but to convert their cars into boot stalls.

As the situations continues to be dire in Kenya, many car owners have sort to sell goods by the roadside.

The government however has discouraged such sales, arguing that their encroachment on road reserves could be dangerous to motorists.
