Legend Ronaldo has spoken emotionally about his relationship with Diego after he died last week aged 60 years tributes for the player still continue to pour through. – By Stephanie Mwangi.
Ronaldo who is the president of Spanish club Real Valladolid, spoke highly of Diego at a press conference and the two were pretty close.
“Diego left an incredible legacy in football .his loss is very hard to take, the news caught me by surprise and left me very sad I want to send my love to his family and he has changed lives of very many people and I am entirely grateful for the inspiration he provided me.
Ronaldo also spoke and explained why Diego wore two watches one on each wrists.
“one of the very first time he visited me in Madrid we had dinner , Diego brought two watches and the legend went that he did not go anywhere without both of them . And so I asked him why he wore the both of them and he said that his daughter had given them to him as a present and ever since he has never taken them off. At the end of the meal he took one off and gave it to me. I didn’t want to accept it but then he got angry and I was left with no choice I will always look at it as a reminder of his generosity and friendship.”
Diego was laid to rest in Buenos Aires on Friday but there is a mystery surrounding his death as police try to establish there had been a victim medical negligence as they searched his physician’s home
