Sibling rivalry has erupted inside the Kenya Kwanza Alliance as a result of Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua’s comments that Deputy President William Ruto will select his running mate from the Central region.Â
“But, in my opinion, Ruto is a presidential contender, and the running partner will emerge from the mountain at the perfect time,” Gachagua remarked in an interview with a local TV station.
Amani National Congress (ANC) Party Secretary General Simon Gakuru however, bashed Gachagua claiming he has no authority to speak on behalf of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
Gakuru said that the presidential flag bearer and running mate positions were still up for grabs for either the ANC or Ford Kenya, as no agreement had yet been reached by any political party or community.
“As a result, it is our considered judgment that Hon Rigathi Gachagua should transition from a regional UDA mindset to embrace the bigger picture of Kenya Kwanza ideology,” he stated.
The Mathira MP, who is considered one of the frontrunners for Ruto’s running mate in the mountain, spilled the beans, stating that Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya), both members of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, were already aware that the running mate position was not open to them.
The events unfold as Ruto and Mudavadi set out on an international tour to popularize their bottom up agenda among investors and Kenyans in the diaspora.
The duo, Mudavadi and Gachagua are regarded as top contenders for the Deputy President’s running mate.
Whispers from within the hustlers’ board room indicate the alliance was never welcomed by a section of the UDA founders.
Gachagua was long-seen to be the direct nominee for the job until the earthquake changed fortunes for Mount Kenya.
However, pundits have alluded that should the Deputy President pick a runningmate from outside the mountain, this would scuttle DP Ruto’s chance at securing the vote rich region.
