Ruto Appoints Amani Yuda Komora as New NPSC Chairperson

President William Ruto has appointed Amani Yuda Komora as the new Chairperson of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) in a move expected to shape the next phase of reforms within Kenya’s policing sector.

Komora will serve a six-year term at the helm of the commission, succeeding a period marked by heightened calls to improve police welfare, enhance accountability, and streamline disciplinary procedures across the service.

In a Gazette Notice dated August 22, 2025, President Ruto formally confirmed the appointment, noting, “I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Amani Yuda Komora to be the Chairperson of the National Police Service Commission, for a term of six (6) years.”

Alongside Komora, the President also named Angeline Yiamiton Siparo as a member of the commission, also for a six-year term. Siparo brings a strong background in public health, governance, and international development, having served as Chairperson of the National Aids Control Council from 2016 to 2022 and worked with global institutions including UNAIDS, Oxford HR, and the African Union.

Komora steps into the role with extensive experience in human resource management and governance. He previously served as Vice-Chairperson of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), General Manager of Human Resource and Administration at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), and Assistant Commissioner for Human Resources at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). He was also a member of the National General Wages Council, making him well-versed in institutional reforms and staff welfare matters.

The appointments follow successful vetting and recommendation by the NPSC Selection Panel, as outlined in Gazette Notice No. 1181.

The NPSC is tasked with overseeing recruitment, promotions, transfers, and discipline within the National Police Service — functions seen as pivotal in restoring public trust and ensuring effective policing across the country.
