On Saturday, National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), purportedly acting on orders from Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi, took down a plaque bearing Deputy President William Ruto’s name at a newly commissioned police station.
According to reports, Nakuru County Commissioner Erastus Mbui ordered security officers to remove the plaque from Lanet Police Station as soon as Ruto returned from launching the modern police station.
The Bahati Police station renovation was funded by the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and patronized by Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri.
MP Ngunjiri condemned the incident, calling out CS Matiang’i for such an ‘immature’ move.
“For the police to be manipulated to vandalize Lanet Police Station after launching it with DP William Ruto truly shows how immature some of us are. According to the CDF Act, all laws were followed and even the branding done as per the Act,” he said.
The Saturday incident occurred after Matiangi instructed NGAO officials to remain faithful to President Uhuru Kenyatta and “follow in his footsteps” ahead of the 2022 General Election.
Mbui stated he was not the one who gave the orders. He stated, “I have no influence over cops.”
