President William Ruto has appointed former Wildlife PS Susan Koech as the Central Bank of Kenya’s (CBK) second deputy governor, resolving a double legal snag at the banking regulator.
The Senate is expected to receive her name when the House reconvenes after a long recess on Monday.
Dr. Koech, who has a doctorate in business administration from Moi University, previously served as the Nairobi regional head of KCB Group before moving to government corridors.
The appointment of a second deputy governor will address a legal issue that the Auditor-General has repeatedly raised.
The governor and two deputies are required by law to serve on the CBK executive team, which was enacted in 2015.
During his 10-year tenure, former President Uhuru Kenyatta did not allow CBK to have two deputy governors.
