Details are emerging that the withdrawal of GSU officers from the residence of DP William Ruto was effected to curtail his movement.
The redeployment was executed by the Ministry of Internal top brass to stop the DP’s unofficial tours into various counties.
Investigations have revealed that the GSU men were providing cover for the DP during rallies and church events. Yet, they have no authority to do so.
During such visits, the DP team is supposed to liaise with County Police commanders for security cover and crowd control.
But the DP, according to sources, has been moving with his elite 100 plus GSU men, leaving his premises exposed.
The DPs office is constitutional, and his security is guaranteed by the Recce Company of GSU. It is this ruthless squad that guards the President, his Deputy, and other constitutional officeholders The commandos are training in close combat and VIP protection while the G Company protects protected Government installations.
The Security of the Government Buildings Unit is now guarding the Ruto residence. But unlike the GSU G Company continent, the AP squad arrives and departs every morning.
This makes it impossible for them to move with the DP as they have to remain fixed to secure the buildings. The DP protocol team now has to rely on County Police commanders to move around.
The newly deployed APS are under firm instruction not to loiter with the DP but to remain firmly rooted at their workstation.
Ruto has, however, retained lethal US-trained GSU Commandos to provide close 24-hour security.
These are the same officers who guard the President on a 24-hour basis. Security sources have confirmed that the more than 80 GSU officers stationed at the gates were unofficially moving with the DP during his tours to provide a ring around him.
This is against the Standing Orders of the police on deployment and VIP protection protocol.
State Houses and Lodges are protected by officers from the G Company. The Recce Unit, a ruthless force highly trained in combat, protects the Presidency and selects members of the first family.
The overall command of these elite companies is devolved to line commanders…but overall responsibility on deployment is the preserve of the GSU commandant. The GSU personnel elite units are multi-talented young officers, mainly below 30 years.
