President William Ruto has directed Interior Cabinet Security Kithure Kindiki to provide security to Raila Odinga and his team ahead of the planned nationwide demonstrations on December 7.
During an interdenominational service in Embu on Sunday, December 4, Ruto sarcastically sent CS Kindiki to Raila to collect the itinerary of the planned mass action.
However, he stated that the security organs will not only protect the former Premier, but also Kenyan property.
“I have asked CS Kindiki to ask them their demonstration schedule so that we provide security to protect them and they do not vandalize people’s property,” he noted.
“They should also tell us if they want to demonstrate every day, every month, and for how many years, because we are used to them.”
Ruto chastised Raila for his plan to hold public rallies, saying he will not be deterred from moving the country forward.
Raila, according to President Ruto, enjoys disrupting government progress, but this will not deter him from growing the nation’s economy.
He also warned Raila against threatening and blackmailing the nation, saying he should stick to his opposition role of keeping the government in check.
“We will continue without development programmes with or without public rallies because we know that they do not want the country’s economy to grow,” he said.
“They can do as they please but I assure them that Kenya is not going to be the same. You will not blackmail this nation and threaten the people of Kenya. We are determined to move the country forward and you will not hold us back. These people ought to be doing the work of the opposition. “
Raila has pledged to hold public protests against President William Ruto’s administration at the Kamukunji grounds on Wednesday, December 7 and Monday, December 12.
Meanwhile, the Jubilee and KANU parties of the Azimio la Umoja coalition have distanced themselves from the rallies.
