President William Ruto has made new nominations and redeployments within Kenya’s Foreign Service, in what officials describe as part of the regular rotation of diplomatic staff.
In a notice dated April 8, 2026, the Executive Office of the President announced that former Kenya Revenue Authority Commissioner General Humphrey Wattanga has been nominated as Kenya’s High Commissioner to Pretoria, South Africa.
Also nominated is Dr. Julius Murori Mbijiwe, who has been appointed as Ambassador to the Vatican (The Holy See).
In the same changes, Ambassador Irene Maswan has been redeployed as Deputy Ambassador to London, United Kingdom, while Ambassador Judy Muthoni Njau has been appointed Deputy Ambassador to Brussels, Belgium/European Union.
According to the statement, the postings are part of a broader effort to support Kenya’s diplomatic presence abroad and ensure continuity within missions.
The nominations have since been forwarded to the National Assembly for consideration and approval in line with constitutional requirements.
