Two children have been rescued in Embakasi South, Nairobi, following an alleged child trafficking incident that has raised concern over the safety of minors in the area.
According to Nairobi County Head of Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Geoffrey Mosiria, the children a boy and a girl had allegedly been stolen and sold for Ksh50,000 each in Kware.
“Yesterday, I rescued two children from Kware in Embakasi South who had been stolen and sold for Ksh50,000 each,” Mosiria said.
He added that the case came to light after one of the buyers allegedly fell ill and was advised to return the child.
“The woman who bought the two children… later fell sick. When she consulted a witch doctor, she was told that… if she did not return the child to the rightful parents, she would never recover and could even die,” he said.
Mosiria stated that although one child was returned, the seller attempted to resell the child instead of reuniting them with their parents.
“Instead of taking the child back to the parents, the seller began looking for another buyer,” he said.
Acting on the information, he intervened, leading to the rescue of both children and the arrest of two suspects.
“During the operation, the woman confessed that she had bought each child for Ksh50,000. We successfully rescued both children and the two suspects were arrested,” Mosiria said.
Authorities are expected to continue investigations to establish the full extent of the incident and identify all those involved.
