President William Ruto held talks with Ambassador Ramtane Lamamra, the Personal Envoy of United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Sudan, at State House, Nairobi.
Ambassador Lamamra briefed President Ruto on the UN’s ongoing efforts to secure humanitarian access, de-escalate hostilities, and push for a transition toward a civilian-led administration in Sudan, where conflict has displaced millions and left millions more in urgent need of aid.
President Ruto reiterated Kenya’s commitment to support regional and international initiatives aimed at halting the war and addressing the worsening humanitarian crisis. He underscored that the aspirations of the Sudanese people, expressed during the 2019 revolution, must remain central to any lasting settlement.
“As I have repeatedly observed, there cannot be a military solution in Sudan,” Ruto said, urging all parties to prioritize the welfare of the people above political or factional interests.
Kenya has been a key regional voice in efforts to mediate the Sudan crisis, working through the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and in close collaboration with international partners to push for dialogue and peace.
