Ruto Shuts Naivasha Port

President William Ruto has reaffirmed his promise to restore clearing operations to the Mombasa port.

During his inauguration, the Head of State stated that he would issue additional instructions regarding the operation of the Mombasa port in order to facilitate business and boost the Mombasa economy.

The relocation of port operations to the Naivasha Dry Port was a major campaign priority.

“This afternoon, I will be issuing instructions for clearing of goods and other attendant operational duties to the port of Mombasa as I made a commitment to Kenyans. This will restore thousands of jobs in the city of Mombasa,” he stated.

Ruto made the announcement while delivering his inaugural address as the fifth President of Kenya at Kasarani Stadium.

During the campaigns, Ruto promised to restore the port to Mombasa county, even as his allies accused former President Uhuru Kenyatta of destroying the coastal region’s economy by shifting operations to Naivasha Dry Port.

The reversal of port operations is one of several orders issued by Ruto today. Others include the appointment of six judges, the reduction of fertiliser pieces, and a Ksh3 billion increase in the Judiciary Fund.

In addition, the President stated that his administration would issue more directives on some of their campaign promises in the coming days.

“In the days ahead, I will make announcements that are going to better define the trajectory of my administration. I promise to make every Kenyan proud and ensure the economic well-being of all of us,” he stated.
