Ruto Suspends BioVax Chair Swarup Mishra Over Mediheal Kidney Transplant Scandal

President William Ruto has suspended Dr. Swarup Mishra as chair of the Kenya BioVax Institute with immediate effect.

The decision follows serious allegations of unethical and illegal activities involving kidney transplant procedures at Mediheal Hospital and Fertility Centre in Eldoret — a facility founded by Dr. Mishra.

In a statement released by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed on Friday, April 18, the suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of investigations.

“The suspension shall remain in force pending the outcome of investigations into serious allegations of unethical and illegal activities,” the statement read.

The allegations relate to transplant procedures at the hospital, which has come under scrutiny in recent weeks.

This is after the facility was linked to allegations of organ trafficking.

President Ruto’s office emphasized the government’s commitment to integrity and public safety, particularly in the healthcare sector.

“The President reaffirms the Government’s commitment to fighting corruption, including upholding integrity in healthcare, public safety, and justice for victims,” the statement added.

The Kenya BioVax Institute, where Dr. Mishra served as chair, is a state agency under the Ministry of Health, mandated with local vaccine manufacturing and biotechnological innovations.

Authorities are yet to provide a detailed timeline for the investigations or confirm if any criminal proceedings will follow.

The Office of the State House Spokesperson said updates will follow once the investigations conclude.
