The Supreme Court’s decision kicks off an eventful week for the President’s Assumption Committee.
The team now has seven days to finalize plans for President-elect William Ruto and Deputy President-elect Rigathi Gachagua’s inauguration on Tuesday, September 13.
On Monday, Kenya’s Supreme Court upheld Ruto’s election as the country’s fifth president.
The ceremony was postponed for two weeks after Raila Odinga, leader of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya, challenged Ruto’s election.
Yesterday, officers from the Directorate of Public Communications inspected media facilities at Kasarani Stadium.
The committee, led by Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua, is tasked with ensuring a smooth transition of power from President Uhuru Kenyatta to the new administration.
Aside from assisting the outgoing President in handing over the process to the President-elect, the committee is expected to organize for the security of the President-elect and his personnel.
The team is also expected to coordinate the President-briefings elect’s by relevant public officers, facilitate communication between the outgoing President and the President-elect, prepare the program and organize for the swearing-in ceremony, and carry out any other activity required for the performance of its functions under the Act and any other written law.
Deputy President-elect Ruto’s security was immediately upgraded after the electoral commission declared him the winner of the presidential election on August 9.
