Sabina Chege, the Murang’a Women Representative, has reignited debate about Kenya’s succession politics by stating that vote-rigging is a possibility in elections.
The comments have gone viral on social media, with supporters and followers of Deputy President William Ruto asking her to back up her claims.
Sabina is a member of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party, which is supporting ODM leader Raila Odinga in the August presidential election, which promises to be a battle royale with the Deputy President, who abandoned the ruling party for his United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
“I have heard others saying we rigged, there is some truth in it. So if we managed to rig, even this one we can. They think they are the smartest,” she said in Western Thursday while in the company of other Azimio La Umoa-leaning MPs.
Oblivious of the damage she caused, Sabina Chege soldiered on, informing Vihiga villagers that voting for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader was the only way to assure his ascension to power.
She also acknowledged that Raila was a project, as claimed by the Kenya Kwanza brigade, however adding that he was only the people’s project.
