Sakaja Calls For Arrest of Man Captured With Tom Mboya Street Signage

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja on Tuesday, March 21 called for the arrest of those responsible for the destruction of public infrastructure in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) during Monday’s protests.

During a county function at City Hall, the Governor insisted that all perpetrators of the vandalism be held accountable as a deterrent to their actions.

As one of the notable acts of vandalism witnessed on the first day of the mass action protests, he singled out the man captured in a viral photo carrying the signage of Tom Mboya Street in Nairobi’s CBD.

“I saw someone carrying the Tom Mboya Street signage, those who were captured must be charged,” Sakaja stated.

According to Sakaja, Nairobi County lost approximately Ksh30 million, which he claims is half of the total daily revenue collected.

As such, he called for an immediate solution, noting that Azimio la Umoja’s plan to hold weekly protest rallies would be unsustainable for the economy.

His statement came amid mixed reactions about the significance of mass protests in Azimio’s quest for electoral justice and a review of the factors influencing the cost of living.

With only a few shops open in the CBD, business in the nation’s capital came to a halt.

Looting and vandalism targeting open businesses in various parts of the city were also reported, resulting in losses.
