A Police officer pursuing an overloaded lorry in Kajiado was shot dead by a colleague after a rogue transporter deliberately reversed into their vehicle.
Corporal Fanuel Abongo died while undergoing treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital following the incident.
The freak accident happened after the sand truck Registration number KCX 330Z deliberately reversed into the KeNHA weighbridge vehicle KCY 186 W triggering the accidental discharge of fire from an AK 47 rifle assigned to Constable Emma Sopiato.
The incident occurred at Kimuka Trading Centre. According to Police Reports, the lorry driver refused to stop when flagged by the said officers.
KeNHA is partnering with the Police Service to enforce axle load limits and has urged transporters to ensure compliance.
However, this has faced resistance from sand trucks, who have forged rogue monitoring units targeting the enforcement.
