Sebastian Sawe Shines in Valencia Marathon with Historic Debut

Kenyan runner Sebastian Sawe made a sensational debut at the Valencia Marathon, finishing fifth on the all-time list with a remarkable time of 2:02:05.

This stunning performance positions him among the elite marathoners in history, trailing only his compatriots Kelvin Kiptum and Eliud Kipchoge, as well as Ethiopian legends Kenenisa Bekele and Sisay Lemma.

The triumph comes on the heels of Sawe’s recent title as the world half-marathon champion in 2023.

In the women’s race, Ethiopia’s Megertu Alemu also made headlines by smashing her personal best, clinching the title with a time of 2:16:49—almost two minutes quicker than her previous record.

Both athletes demonstrated incredible resilience and talent amidst the backdrop of the recent floods that devastated Valencia, claiming 230 lives and causing widespread destruction throughout the city.

The marathon went ahead just a month after these tragic events, symbolizing hope and recovery for the local community. Participants and spectators alike celebrated the achievements of Sawe and Alemu, marking a memorable day in the sport of marathon running.
