Nandi Senator, Kiprotich Arap Cherargei, sought to clear the air after a viral social media post outrageously condemned a segment of Kenyan business people.
Cherargei, who reported the post as fake, urged social media users to disregard misleading information intended to cause division.
The Nandi Senator also accused his political foe of fabricating the fake social media post in order to smear his reputation and drag him into a feud with Mount Kenya businessmen.
“Ignore this devilish propaganda by political detractors,” Cherargei warned.
The fake tweet claimed that the senator had called Mount Kenya businessmen tax evaders.
It also claimed that the government would deal harshly with businessmen who evaded taxes, undermining efforts to recover the economy.
On Monday, January 30, President William Ruto stated unequivocally that no Kenyan would be exempted from paying taxes.
The President warned the opposition that a political stalemate would not prevent the government from cracking down on tax evaders.
“This country is not the animal farm where some are more equal than others, we are going to have a society where every citizen carries their fair share of our burden to raise our taxes.
“Even if they sponsor demonstrations, so they do not pay tax, I want to promise that they will pay taxes. “There will be no more exemptions,” Ruto cautioned.
