Senator Millicent Omanga, who was nominated, has denied being arrested and spending Sunday night at the Kileleshwa Police Station.
Omanga said she was fine and sleeping well in a tweet on Sunday night, adding that any other stories should be considered propaganda.
She tweeted, “Watu wangu mimi niko sawa ka usingizi kananibamba tu…izo zingine ni story.”
Senator Omanga’s purported detention was first reported on Sunday night, with some netizens alleging she was detained for operating a wine and spirits establishment outside curfew hours.
Following the reports, numerous internet users alleged that the state was targeting Deputy President William Ruto’s associates. This follows the arrest of Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua by DCI officers on Friday, July 23, 2021.
While Gachagua’s counsel claims that no explanation was given for his arrest, the UDA ally has run afoul of the law due to his large money accounts.
The Assets Recovery Authority has been after him for Sh12.5 billion that was allegedly transferred through three of his microfinance bank accounts.
The money was allegedly moved through the accounts during a seven-year period in what was thought to be a case of money laundering, according to the authority.
