Sentimental Energy Launches EV Charging Product Line in Kimilili

Kimilili, Bungoma County – Sentimental Energy Company Ltd, a leader in solar energy and sustainable infrastructure solutions, has today announced the official launch of its Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Product Line at a milestone event in Kimilili.

The launch marks a first-of-its-kind initiative in the region, positioning Kimilili as a pioneer in Kenya’s transition to clean mobility. Sentimental Energy has invested in 7 electric motorcycles (e-bodas) and will be establishing solar-powered EV charging stations at Webuye Town, Lugulu Girls, Kimilili and Kamukuywa to support this new product line.

The move is part of the company’s broader mission to extend renewable energy benefits beyond schools and roads into the mobility sector.

“At Sentimental Energy, we believe in a holistic vision of sustainability — powering schools, roads, and now mobility. By launching EV charging stations in rural towns like Kimilili, we are proving that the clean energy transition is not just for big cities, but for every community in Kenya,” said Eng. Paul Simiyu Mabonga, Managing Director of Sentimental Energy.
Why This Matters

  • Affordable Transport: Electric motorcycles cut operational costs by up to 80% compared to fuel powered boda bodas, putting more income directly in the hands of riders.
  • Cleaner Communities: EV adoption will help reduce carbon emissions, air pollution, and noise in local towns.
  • Income for Schools: Under the Solar for Schools program, schools with surplus solar energy during holidays will host EV charging hubs, turning excess power into new revenue streams.
  • Future-Ready Infrastructure: By pioneering EV charging in rural Kenya, Sentimental Energy is creating a foundation for broader adoption of clean mobility nationwide. Strategic Partnerships
The EV charging product line builds on Sentimental Energy’s strong track record of delivering innovative solar solutions across Kenya — from solarizing over 70 schools, to installing smart solar streetlights in major towns and highways, to now enabling clean transport. The company is also working with technology partners such as Spiro, who supplied the e-bikes, to provide training and product demonstrations at the launch.

This pilot launch in Kimilili will be followed by regional rollouts across Western Kenya, targeting areas with dense boda boda networks and existing solarized learning institutions.
  • The initiative aligns with Kenya’s e-mobility goals, which project electric motorcycles to account for at least 5% of new registrations by 2025, and provides a sustainable, scalable model for rural towns.
