Seven individuals were on Monday arraigned before the Kiambu Law Courts in connection with the violent protests that rocked Kikuyu town in Kiambu County on June 25, 2025.
The suspects Sammy Ndung’u Kariuki (alias Ndoji), Simon Njoroge Hiuhu, Ali Shama Tabet, Lawrence Kariuki Ndung’u, James Njuguna Mwaura, Lewis Kariuki Njuhi, and Peter Njenga Ngina face a raft of serious charges, including arson, robbery with violence, shop breaking, and theft.
Prosecutors told the court that the charges stem from acts committed during the protest, which escalated into chaos, looting, and destruction of public and private property in the area.
Detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kikuyu Sub-County presented their preliminary findings, prompting the court to grant a request for extended detention. The suspects will be held at the Kiambu Police Station for seven more days as investigations continue.
The DCI says the move is part of a broader effort to ensure accountability for those who allegedly took advantage of the demonstrations to commit crimes.
Authorities have vowed to differentiate between peaceful protestors and those involved in criminal acts, warning that violent demonstrators will face prosecution. The case is expected to set the tone for how the government handles future incidents involving unrest and property damage.
