Several passengers were injured after the bus they were travelling in crashed this morning on the Keroka-Sotik highway in the Rianyandoro section of Borabu district of Nyamira County.
According to the Keroka Traficc commander Osman Hassan, the driver of the Kisii Classic bus that was heading from Nairobi to Kisii town missed the road and struck a tree, and then fell.
Osman said the 55 passengers had been rescued and rushed to various hospitals for treatment, one of whom had serious injuries.
“The impact caused the Kisii bus to veer off and roll causing grave injuries to one passenger. All of them were rushed to Keroka sub-county Hospital where they are being attended to,” Hassan said.
Two people, the driver and the conductor of the vehicle are also in custody after being arrested for allegedly driving inappropriately in the middle of the road.
Following the accident, drivers have been urged to be vigilant on the roads to prevent accidents, especially during the Christmas season, where such cases are frequent.
