Shelmith Kiprono alias Jerop, a househelp accused of stealing Ksh104 million from her employer’s house in Langata, was on Monday arraigned at the Kibera law courts.

Kiprono is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, along with three other co-accused: Caleb Nagomere Rasto, Aziva Brain Kenneth, and Eunice Akinyi.

The complainant’s lawyer, Dunstan Omari, told the court that the complainant had received serious threats and intimidation from unknown people suspected of working with the accused persons.

“We have raised this to the Investigating Officer (IO). It has come to the attention of the complainant and the IO that the accused are intending to disappear from the jurisdiction of this court having stolen the money. A bond of 1 million shillings can easily make them abscond court. We urge the court to suspendthe terms granted,” said the complaint’s Lawyer.

The four accused appeared before Magistrate E. Rainy and were released on a bond of Ksh 7 million, which was later reduced to Ksh 1 million after the accused filed an application to have the bond terms lowered to more lenient terms.

The four accused are said to have stolen some Ksh.4, 000,000, USD 806,000 in cash, jewelry with an estimated worth of Ksh.4, 000,000 as well as copies of the log book and title deeds all valued at 104,000,000.

According to the prosecution file, the four committed the crime on May 5, 2022 and were apprehended on May 13, 2022.
