On Thursday, a group of rowdy youth attempted to attack Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol after he returned to the county for the first time since the Senate rescued him from impeachment last month.
Mr. Oduol arrived around 3 p.m. on Thursday and went straight to his office, where he sat for a few minutes before a group of youth stormed the office to evict him, prompting his security details to call for reinforcement from the police.
This created tension at the county government headquarters before he left under the tight security of a contingent of police officers who sandwiched his convoy as it snaked through the streets of Siaya town, accompanied by a few of his supporters.
Mr Oduol then made a brief stop in the town centre, where he addressed members of the public while condemning attempts to bar him from accessing his office.
The Deputy Governor pleaded for a truce between himself and his boss, James Orengo, stating that it is his wish that they sit together and resolve their differences so that they can effectively work for the people of Siaya County.
He stated that now that the Senate has vindicated him, they must work together to deliver the nine-point manifesto that they presented to the people of Siaya County during their campaigns last year.
Mr. Oduol expressed heartfelt gratitude to his supporters for standing by him as he fought the impeachment attempt.
The Deputy Governor, on the other hand, vowed to continue raising the alarm whenever anything goes wrong in Governor James Orengo’s administration.
