Sifuna chastises Murkomen over the KQ standoff

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has chastised Transport Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Kenya Airways for their comments on the ongoing standoff.

On Saturday, KQ CEO Allan Kilavuka gave pilots until 11.30 a.m. to return to work or face termination.
He stated that the pilots’ association’s executive council members have called in sick to protect themselves while their members are on strike.

Murkomen went on to call the KQ pilots’ strike unjustified “economic sabotage.”

The CS, who spoke Saturday after touring Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to assess the strike’s impact, stated that the strike was timed to “test the new administration.”

Sifuna, on the other hand, disagreed with the remarks made, claiming that dialogue was the solution.

“As a member of the Senate Transportation Committee and one of the affected passengers, I strongly disagree with the tone adopted by CS Murkomen and the KQ Management on the issue of KQ Pilots,” he said.

Threats, according to the lawmaker, never work to solve problems, and he urged the CS and KQ management to engage with its people.

“Threats are never effective. Talk to the pilots and get people involved. This is a test for us, not for you, bwana “Sifuna elaborated.

According to Kalpa, the onus is on KQ management to break the impasse.
