Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on leaders to attentively listen to Kenyans who entrusted them with leadership roles.
Speaking during the consecration service at ACK St Patrick’s Church in Kayole on Sunday, Gachagua emphasized the importance of leaders being receptive to the voices of their constituents, regardless of their socio-economic status.
“Mimi naambia viongozi sikizeni ground na wanasema ati mimi nawatisha lakini nawaambia tu ukweli,” Gachagua stated, underscoring his commitment to truthfulness as a leader. He warned that those who fail to heed the concerns of the public risk losing their positions.
“If they don’t listen to the people on the ground, they will fall out with them and get fired,” he cautioned, highlighting the accountability leaders have to their voters.
The Deputy President reiterated the qualities of a good leader, noting that they must prioritize understanding the needs and perspectives of the people they serve.
“I want to encourage leaders in the country to please listen to the people,” he said, stressing that open communication fosters effective governance.
Gachagua acknowledged that his candid approach has led to disagreements with some leaders in government, who perceive his honesty as confrontational. However, he maintains that transparency is essential in today’s political landscape.
“Kenyans are now woke,” he exclaimed, adding that the public is increasingly savvy and no longer susceptible to deceit.
With the proliferation of information through the internet, Gachagua believes Kenyans are more informed than ever, reinforcing the necessity for leaders to be honest and straightforward.
He committed to continuing his alliance with the public’s desire for truthfulness, declaring that the days of misleading the population are behind us.
