Singer Ruth Matete was on Thursday reportedly grilled by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over the death of her Nigerian husband John Apewajoye.
As reported by Nation, Matete recorded a statement on the statement saying that Apewajoyes’s body was burnt while trying to light up their gas cylinder on March 30, 2020.
Matete led the scene of crime officers, his lawyer Robert Odanga and officials from the energy and petroleum Regulatory authority to the scene where the explosion occurred.
Matete said that her husband got burnt while trying to light up their 6kg gas cylinder after a refill. She added that the gas was full and he was trying to release some.
According to Matete, her husband tried to light up the gas after which it exploded.
She reportedly rushed him to Shallom Hospital, before transferring him to Bellevue South Hospital’s High Dependency Unit where he developed complications and was on April 5 admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
A post mortem is yet to be conducted since the Nigerian embassy is still holding the body at KNH mortuary after a video was released by one of its citizens who claimed to Apewajoye’s manager questioning the circumstances behind his death.
The report further indicates that Matete’s lawyer has filed a complaint against the Gas Company as well as Bellevue South Hospital which he said recorded the deceased’s burns as 40% despite it being recorded as 60% at KNH.
The team of investigators is also said to have collected exhibits including a gas cylinder and other samples to establish what happened.
