The 193 kilometer stretch was awarded to the EPC Contractor Sino Hydro Corporation, and was slated for completion in April 2021.

However, the project will be delivered today, nearly 4 months ahead of its completion time.

The project will cut the time taken to commute from Kibwezi to Kitui from 6 hours to just under 2 hours.

The project, under the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) starts at Kibwezi Town about 210km south of Nairobi and continues to the North through Ikutha and Mutomo to Kitui. It then proceeds to Kabati and onwards through Tulia to Migwani.

The project has so far raised the living standards for residents living along the project.

Rehabilitated schools, dams, boreholes and earth dams have been sunk along the satellite towns, thereby improving the quality of life.

Kibwezi, Kitui and Migwani youths have been engaged in employment, with a good majority of them getting rare training opportunities that have benefitted more than 2,000 locals in masonry.
