Residents of Sirongo Beach in Bondo are up in arms over a prolonged power outage that has persisted for more than three months, crippling local businesses and worsening insecurity in the area.

Led by Sylvia Achieng’ Odera, chairperson of the Sirongo Beach Management Unit (BMU), the community staged a peaceful protest, demanding urgent government intervention. “We have endured darkness for too long. Businesses are collapsing, and our safety is at risk,” she said.

Enos Otieno, chairman of the Sirongo Beach traders, echoed the community’s concerns, noting that repeated efforts to get help from Kenya Power’s Bondo office have been in vain. “Our livelihoods are at stake. The insecurity grows worse each day without power, yet no action has been taken,” Otieno lamented.

Residents Paul Omondi Ogendo and Monica Amondi Omolo appealed to Bondo Member of Parliament Gideon Ochanda and Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi to step in and facilitate power restoration.

In addition to the electricity woes, residents also raised concerns about the deteriorating condition of the Bondo–Sirongo Beach road. They said the poor infrastructure is hindering the transportation of fish to Kisumu, further straining the local economy.

The residents now await a response from authorities, urging swift action to restore essential services and ensure the safety and sustainability of their community.
